Travis Louie putting the finishing touches on one of the larger works in the show.

“You have thin fingers, right? I want you to pose with my pug.”  Travis asked me to hold his dog to provide reference material for a future drawing.

A small price to pay for the generous hospitality I received from Travis Louie when I visited him at his studio to see what he was working on for his exhibition The Ghost of Delilah and Other Stories opening today (12/2) at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles.

Collaboration with Molly Crabapple waiting to be framed.

I was not only able to ogle Louie’s new artwork, but this being a show of collaborative works, also present were contributions from Greg “Craola” Simkins, Molly Crabapple, John Cebollero, Cory Benhatzel, and a few others.  These collaborations have thrown an exciting eclectic vibe into the mix of what we usually see from Mr. Louie.  For this exhibit, his characters interact with those from the minds of other of our most favorite artists working today.  It’s going to be an exciting show!

Work in progress: collaboration with Craola

For those of you on the west coast, head on over to Gallery 1988 (7020 Melrose Avenue) to see the work in person. The show will be up until December 26th.
